Bed side Lamp

Rustica mesmerizes you with an authentic old-world charm. When lit, the lamp appears to display an abstract pattern first, but transitions quickly to a complete village scene, arousing a deep sense of enigma. Created with handmade paper, transporting you to a day in the life of the paper’s craftsman in distant Asia, Rustica is sure to strike a chord in your heart.

P R O C E S S

Brief : The brief of the project was to explore how light may affect our perception of scale.

Process : My product explores how light travels through different mediums and how the scale of light has the power to direct our vision to the smaller details. Light here travels through two different objects where it directs our attention to details in some areas and has a blurry effect in some other areas to help us focus on the bigger picture. I experimented with a lot of materials to see how lamps made of different materials could project different lights. The final lamp was made with a handmade paper which has a screen print of a painting that I had made in the rural areas in India where the actual paper was made. I created a pattern on it using holes and added another layer of a transparent paper to blur out the entire light projection and to further prove that the same light traveling through this material now, has a very different outcome.
